John Salamone

I began my musical journey at a very young age. I remember singing in church at the age of seven and I always knew that I could sing and liked doing it, but didn't realize my musical abilities and passion until my early teens.

My parents are both music enthusiasts and my dad used to sing in a band. Growing up, his record collection could rival and trump most local shops! I grew up hearing tons of different styles: everything from Motown and Jazz, to the Beatles and Neil Young and lots of Pop music in between. It all had an effect on m e. Some good and some bad but it all made me feel and it still does. For me, it's not about what music makes you feel but just the fact that it makes you feel anything at all, is a powerful force of nature.

My brother and sister have also deeply inspired my early musical tastes. They had eccentric music collections that were filled with gems from the time we grew up – the ' 90's. Absorbing all that I could from the Seattle scene as well as all of the great pop rock bands from the U.K. at the time. Bands like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden Radiohead and Supergrass really mattered to me and still do.

At age thirteen, my brother bought me the best birthday present ever – a guitar! Needless to say, life would never be the same. Along with my best friend and long time musical adventurer, Nick Vacante, we became hooked on all things guitar and music related. Nick and I played in many different bands through High School and it was during this time that I really developed as a song writer and singer, almost by default. I knew a lot of guitarists growing up, but I didn't know many guys who could sing and write. There were always my favorite aspects of being a musician and I naturally fell into the groove. Nick really developed into a brilliant player and I could sing and write so we had the basis of our musical foundation. We would play and write and record all the time! We couldn't stop and didn't want to…

In 2004 we were rewarded for our years of passion and hard work. Our then band, Glasshouse, was selected as the winner of the Emergenza, a European based Battle of the Bands Tournament. We placed first out of about 200 local bands. As winners we played at the 2004 Taubertal Festival in Rothenbourg, Germany in front of a massive crowd of 40,000. We enjoyed many successes in that band which included touring Canada and the United States and recording an E. P.

My current band, John Salamone Band, or JSB is the band I always wanted to be a part of. The band consists of Nick Vacante on guitar, bassist, Brian Beard, formerly of The Red King, drummer, Zack Zimmer and myself on vocals and guitar. In our brief two year existence we have developed a sound somewhere between spacey pop and epic, riff rock. We gig constantly in the greater Philadelphia area and look forward to getting our band off the ground.

In 2007 I met Ron E. Kayfield and we bonded from the start. He has taken me under his wing and has become a sort of "guitar guru" to me thus leading to my involvement in this musical project.

I love the thrill of sharing my music and I will do it forever!!!!!
