Marsha Kayfield
Marsha's earliest influences were The Monkees, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Janice Joplin & Cher. She later learned to appreciate the soulful blues of Billie Holiday, Edda James, and Lena Horne, which have influenced the gutsy emotional feel that is her vocal style. She wants the listener to hear the emotion each line is supposed to convey. She has loved writing poetry and singing ever since she can remember.
As a teenager she dreamt of her soul mate, Ron E. Kayfield, when she was seventeen. In her dream, she saw him walking out of a fog with a bright light behind him. She knew her future husband would be a musician. They have been writing together ever since they met.
In 1983 Ozzy Osborne sent airplane tickets to Ron and Marsha to travel to England so Ron could play guitar for him. In the week it took to pack up an apartment and travel to England, Ozzy entered rehab and Pete Way (UFO) had received his walking papers from Ozzy, prompting the forming of the band Waysted, with Pete Way, Ron E. Kayfield, Fin More aka Ian Muir, Paul Raymond (UFO, MSG) and Frank Noon (Def Leppard).
After Ron left Waysted, he formed the band Saints & Sinners and indie record company Rapture Records (name now used by others), Important/CBS Distribution. Marsha managed and booked S&S using the name MJK Field.
In 1992, Marsha and Ron purchased a music store in Pennsylvania and devoted the next 8 years building the business and hand making Arpeggio Korina Guitars. In September of 1999, Marsha started working on completing one of her dreams; to write a novel. And in 2000, Ron started itching to play guitar with a band and called friends. He started jamming again and formed an oldies band the Silvertones. He asked Marsha to join in singing the R & B & Motown female artists.
After a few years of playing oldies they decided to learn Top 40 and Alternative music, prompting Marsha to sing the male vocals of artists Bush, Lighthouse, Tantric, Soundgarten & Linkin Park, to name a few. No Doubts Gwen Stafoni became a big influence. The third inception of Saints & Sinners was formed during this time period with Marsha on lead vocals. The never released EP Kayfield was recorded featuring the songs Hate, Don't Come Around, Peep Show & High, all written by Ron and Marsha.
In 2003, Ron formed the band Get The Led Out with bass player Paul Picarri doing a Led Zeppelin Tribute once again.
In 2004, their repair & restoration business Arpeggio Music Stringed Instrument Repair Shop became a priority when the manager of Guitar Center in Plymouth Meeting asked Ron to become their main guitar repairman. Between 2004 and 2006 Ron was extremely busy with the repair business and GTLO, putting their joint original project on hold. Marsha, the eternal poet, continued writing her lyrics and poetry. Two of her poems were chosen for publication. Anything and everything can inspire her to pick up pen and paper. With the new collaboration of old friends Marsha came full circle writing and titling their first album New Vices.
The first 4 songs of the album are complete and released in EP format.
Track 1 Fatboy is about a girls love for her Harley.
Track 2 Determination was inspired by the stories of Bullies and their victims taking revenge in deadly ways. It's meant to inspire people to use their anger in a positive way. Find your dream and channel your anger into a determination to become successful doing what you love to do. Track 3 Heroes is an anthem calling us to unite to make this country a better place for everyone (her blog will tell more on how), not just the wealthiest 1 percent. It stems from her belief that our government has become so corrupt it is almost impossible for the right things to be done to help the masses. We must band together to say enough is enough. Before Reagan the tax rate for the wealthy was 90% and there were the Rockefellar's, Vanderbuilts, JP Morgan's, etc., still able to live the high life on the 10% wealth that was left for them to live on. And we the people had a much better life back then. A woman didn't HAVE TOO work out side the home, the man could provide with just his income. You can read more on her blog. Track 4 Tawdry Lover was inspired by a Vanity Fair interview with a celebrity who had gone through a very public breakup & divorce.
Marsha is looking forward to performing their originals, writing more songs and recording in the studio.
